Creating big and bold wayfinding solutions to enhance the visitor experience within vast retail spaces

Large-scale retail wayfinding totems and touchpoints to help visitors get the most from the Battersea Power Station’s Turbine Halls

The Battersea Power Station Turbine Halls (A&B) required a fully comprehensive retail wayfinding scheme that balanced scale and updateability. Holmes Wood responded with a scheme that enables visitors to orientate themselves and navigate the site’s vast internal spaces. To improve visibility and give people the confidence to journey across the Turbine Halls, we designed big and bold interventions, with large-scale retail totems placed at key decision points. Through updateable graphic panels and interactive touchscreen maps, the totems provide accessible and flexible navigational information. These features enable people to get the most out of everything on offer, while easily accommodating new tenants as they arrive.
