Television Centre

Bringing an iconic mid-century site back to life

Adaptable wayfinding that flexes to multiple uses and building types, while staying true to the site’s rich history

In 2018, Holmes Wood worked with architects AHMM on their development of the BBC’s iconic Television Centre in White City, West London. The mixed-use project includes new homes, offices and television studios, restaurants, a cinema, gymnasium, cultural events, and a hotel and club run by Soho House. We created the initial masterplan wayfinding strategy and subsequent wayfinding schemes for key buildings. The internal scheme includes the 280,000-sq ft office space at 2 Television Centre, along with the 950 residential apartments in The Crescent and The Helios. Our approach was to retain many of the original features and reflect the historical architecture in our choice of sign family materials. We also conducted extensive prototyping and adapted materiality to ensure consistency from old to new, creating a strong sense of place.
