Medicine: The Wellcome Galleries

Telling the story of medicine through engaging and interpretive graphics

A highly visual wayfinding solution that creates a strong historical narrative, supporting and enhancing the visitor experience within this unique museum space

The Science Museum’s newly reconfigured medicine galleries required a strong wayfinding solution to support the visitor journey. Occupying the largest space in the world dedicated to medical artefacts, the galleries contain over 3,000 objects. We responded with a series of environmental graphics and designs that bring the exhibits to life, creating a family of interpretative devices that integrate seamlessly into the space. Founded on a clear information hierarchy to create a robust narrative thread, our scheme tells the story of medicine over the past 500 years. The graphics create moments of intrigue and delight, helping to engage the visitor while supporting cyclical themes of darkness and light.
